Happy 5 years!

Today we are five. It feels like a drop in the bucket, and at the same time we’re not newlyweds anymore.

Five years is long enough to learn that she’s going to kick that ice cube she dropped on the ground under the fridge, rather than pick it up. It’s long enough to know that when he says 5:30pm, give him a 30-minute grace period. It’s long enough to figure out shared finances and considering the other person before buying something from Carly Jean’s daily flash sale. It’s exactly how long it took for us to figure out how to ask each other for what we need, rather than assume he knows I just need five minutes to lay on our bed and mindlessly scroll the internet without any little people needing me at the end of a very, very long day.

I look around at friends who have been married longer. I admire them + I watch them closely because I know how hard marriage can be. I look at friends who have been married shorter, + I cheer them on and tell them no season, however hard lasts forever.

Marriage is beautiful and weird and the most sanctifying thing I have been a part of.

This is what I’ve learned in five years. Happy Anniversary to us @jeffreychapman_
